For this weeks blog assignment I choose to take a look
at the Merck Animal Health Website. Merck is a animal health company that researches and manufactures many veterinary medicines, including cattle implants which is what I have been writing about in my blog for the past six weeks. Within thirty seconds of visiting the website I was
already interested
in digging a little deeper into the topic stories that were sliding across the top of the website.
The website is neatly organized and you do not need to scroll at all when
searching for something on the webpage.
The top of the webpage is
split into four different categories with drop downs or hyperlinks. I
was a little bit disappointed by this part of Merck's webpage because it seemed to be a
little inconsistent. When I clicked on the
"about us" I was expecting to be able to click on more options like
the arrow seemed to show but instead I was directed to a page with a brief over
view of the company. On this page the overview of the company is the correct
length and seems to target the correct audience. When I moved to the "species" tab
I was able to select more options like I had initially expected. The "news and media
tab" moved me to a different part of the website where I could read into
any articles written by Merck. The last tab "careers" opened a new
browser. It brings me to a new page of Mercks and I think this could be both a positive and negative thing.
Positive because it is a very interactive but negative because I was unaware that I was going to be
led to a new page.
Overall, the website is attractive
to the viewers eye and isn't packed with too many paragraphs. There is enough positive white space to avoid looking
cluttered and it is very easy find what you might be looking for on Merck's webpage.
